100% Recycled Materials—Kapok clothing is made from 100% recycled materials with graphics printed using soy- or water-based inks. This eliminates much of the pollution and resource consumption associated with production from virgin materials.
5% for Conservation—Kapok contributes five percent of every sale to the organizations below--ocean conservation is central to our mission and we've chosen to support these organizations that are leaders in the field.
Marine Conservation Institute—the Marine Conservation Institute is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving our living oceans. MCI works with scientists, politicians, government officials and organizations around the world to protect essential ocean places and the wild species in them. Learn More
Oceana—founded in 2001, is the largest international organization focused solely on ocean conservation. Staff in North America, Central America, South America and Europe work together on a limited number of strategic, directed campaigns to achieve measurable outcomes that will help return our oceans to former levels of abundance. Oceana believes in the importance of science in identifying problems and solutions and its teams of scientists, economists, lawyers and advocates work together to achieve tangible results for the oceans. Pew Charitable Trusts—The aim of Pew’s environmental initiatives is to strengthen policies and practices in ways that produce significant and measurable protection for terrestrial and marine systems worldwide. Pew's commitment to the environment began in 1974, when they first provided grants to regional conservancies, the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the International Oceanographic Foundation. Always Made in USA—domestic factories are required to adhere to US environmental and labor laws which are among the best in the world. Eliminating overseas shipping reduces fuel use and pollution (each year, cargo ships emit over two million pounds of air particle pollution according to an NOAA study). Every Kapok product is made in the USA because it does matter.
Catalogs—Kapok won’t send out printed catalogs—the amount of paper, ink, and fuel consumed in the production and delivery of thousands of catalogs is unnecessary and wasteful.
Shipping—air freight consumes about eight times more energy than standard shipping—we’ll work to deliver each order quickly but hope you will agree that the environmental benefits realized with ground shipping are worth a few days’ wait.
Clean Energy—Kapok purchases wind energy through the NYC power grid—this yields an annual environmental benefit equivalent to planting over two acres of trees or not driving 6,000 miles.
